Move-In Information

"Move-In" Timeline

  1. Select an apt. - Select the apartment you like best
  2. Application - Complete the application Form.
  3. Hold Deposit + Application Fee – In order to process an application,  the deposit and Fee must be paid.
    Marlboro total = $120* and Hudson = $240 **
  4. Receive a call from us – Most applications take 3-5 business days to process.
  5. Application approval - If your application is approved, we will call    you and send you the  “move in letter” with everything you need    to move in: your new mailing address, the utility company contact info, the moneys needed at the lease signing, etc.
If you would like to start planning for the moneys needed at lease signing, you will need a First month’s Rent, Last month’s rent, and a 1-month security deposit (3 months in total –the hold deposit already given).
For example, if the cost of the unit is $1000 per month, the move-in cost will be $1000 rent x 3 times = $ 3,000 – Hold deposit. These moneys are not payable until you sign the lease. However, the moneys do need to be in money order, cashiers check, or cash. No personal checks for move in moneys will be accepted.
  6. Application denial - If there is an issue with your application, we will call you to discuss it. After all, there are always “two sides to a story”. If we can not overcome the issue, we will refund your Hold Deposit. Unfortunately, the application fee has been spent on the criminal background, credit check, ect. and is not refundable.

    * Marlboro Application Fee = $20 for 1 st Applicant + $15 p/adult. Hold Deposit: $100
    **Hudson Application Fee = $45 for 1 st Applicant + $15 p/adult. Hold Deposit: $200

"Move-In" Advice & Tips

We know that moving is a hassle. We see it every day. Here are some tips that we have seen make moving a lot easier.

Moving day checklist:
  • Notify Current LL - Reach out to your current landlord. Notify them that you are moving out, complete move-out damage check list and return the apt. keys.
  • Gather Packaging Supplies:
    1. large zip lock bags are easy to label and keep similar items together
    2. sharpie pens for labeling
    3. different size boxes so heavy items can be in smaller boxes
    4. packing materials for breakable items (newspapers or bubble wrap)
    5. clear packing tape and scissors to cut the tape
    6. label boxes on the side and the top, so you can see the labels when stacked.
  • Contact Current Utility Companies - Stop service for your current apt. on the day after move out day. Moving can take longer than you anticipate. If you need an additional day, do not be forced to move in the dark. Make the shut off day after move out.
  • Contact New Utility Companies - Start service for your new apt. You do not want to be moving into a new apt without electricity / in the dark or without heat !!
  • Verify Time & Address of New Apt. - Contact your new landlord and verify time and address for moving day.
  • Enter the New Address into Your Cell Phone - At least 1 person will have directions to the new apartment in a new town.
  • Check Your Furniture – Can it fit in the new apt.? If not, consider storage or schedule time to sell it or listing the furniture on free websites such as www.trashnothing.com OR www.nextdoor.com OR just google "free furniture".
  • Pack Infrequently Used Items First - Games, seasonal decorations, etc. Label each box with it's contents and room destination. Be careful to not get too far down memory lane, there is a lot to do.
  • Pack Essential Items Next -  Towels, sheets, etc. Label these boxes "open first".
  • Schedule Time to Clean Your Current Apt.
  • Schedule Movers or Prepare Yourself for the Moving – verify the movers have the correct time and address, give them an estimate of how much you need moved.
  • Update Your Insurance Carriers - Update your current policies with the new address, ask landlord if renters insurance is required. We do not require renter’s insurance.
  • Register New Address with US Postal Service - Contact USPS online, by phone, or go there in person to change your address.
  • Arrange for Children's School Records to be Transferred to New School.
  • Research Your New Neighborhood – Our website has community events listed, find your nearest grocery store, gym, pharmacy, etc..
